【摘要】:1.1Soilsconsistofparticleswithvariousshapesandsizes.Thistestmethodisusedtoseparateparticlesintosizerangesandtodeterminequantitativelythemassofparticlesineachrange.Thesedataarecombinedtodeterminetheparticle-sizedistribution(gradation).Thistestmethodusesasquareopeningsievecriterionindeterminingthegradationofsoilbetweenthe3-in.(75-mm)andNo.200(75-m)sieves.1.2Theterms,soilsandmaterial,areusedinterchangeablythroughoutthestandard.1.3Incaseswherethegradationofparticleslargerthan3in.(75mm)sieveisrequired,TestMethodD5519maybeused.1.4IncaseswherethegradationofparticlessmallerthanNo.200(75-m)sieveisrequired,TestMethodD422maybeused.1.5Typically,ifthemaximumparticlesizeisequaltoorlessthanthe4.75mm(No.4sieve),thensingle-setsievingisapplicable.Furthermore,ifthemaximumparticlesizeisgreaterthanthe4.75mm(No.4sieve)andequaltoorlessthanthe9.5-mm(3/8-insieve),theneithersingle-setsievingorcompositesievingisapplicable.Finally,ifthemaximumparticlesizeisequaltoorgreaterthan19.0mm(3/4-insieve),compositesievingisapplicable.Forspecialconditionssee.1.6Twotestmethodsareprovidedinthisstandard.
